Soweto Pioneers – 120/10 in 21.1 overs
JCC – 121/1 in 17 overs
JCC won by 9 wickets
JCC’s Sunday 1 team continued on their winning ways this past weekend, recording their third straight win and bonus point. Victory this weekend was secured away from home, with the team travelling to the Elkah Stadium — otherwise known as the Soweto Cricket Oval.
Overnight rain ensured a damp outfield, with some of the moisture delaying play on the grassy pitch by an hour and a quarter.
After winning the toss and sending the opposition in to bat, the prospect of even a shortened match running its full course was quickly quelled. Opening bowler and batting hero of last weekend (with his 224 runs off 167 balls) Atif Zia claimed five wickets in the game. He was aided by the two wickets taken by Siyabonga Peter and some tight fielding that resulted in two run-outs.
With a score of only 120 runs, Soweto had their backs to the wall.
Atif continued his strong form, scoring an unbeaten 60 runs to help JCC race to the target for the loss of only one wicket in 17 overs.
