JCC has established a weekly Saturday Cricket Clinic on a no-fee basis that caters to roughly 120 children between the ages of 7 and 17 years who are drawn from the local primary and high schools from the inner city.
This clinic has been in operation for the past seven years and is delivered by volunteer coaches and administrators.
Through these efforts, JCC has been able to affiliate four junior cricket teams with the GCB in the Under-9, Under-11, Under-13 and Under-15 age groups.
The club has more than 100 signed-up members within its junior structures that are drawn from nine nationalities and all the different racial groups in South Africa.
In recognition of the difficult socio-economic conditions the children come from, the club has partnered with Gift of the Givers to deliver a weekly soup kitchen, which is open to the entire community.
JCC has also established partnerships with Queens High, Athlone Boys, Sir Edmond Hillary and Saheti School through which much needed academic and sporting opportunities have been created for the youngsters from the club. In turn, JCC provides guidance and support to these schools’ cricket programmes.
